Rudi likes to recycle and often finds parts of engines and scrap metal too interesting to just discard. For example his Horse Power Sculpture using a cam shaft. This sculpture received the Carmela McHardy Merit  Award in the Emerging Artist Exhibition 2011 at The Upstairs Gallery.

Rudi's various candelabra, braziers, tools and all his black smithed pieces are made from steel this metal is forged using the age old  black smithing technique of heating in a forge till red hot and hammering on an anvil and repeating the heating, hammering and other processes until the desired shape is achieved.
